![]() Jim had to then relocate his family again and they moved back to Texas. Shortly after this the authorities accused Jim of running a counterfeit money scheme and later found out he was Wanted for Murder. On February 22nd 1871 Belle gave birth to her second child, a boy called James Edwin who was nicknamed "Eddie". Jim soon became Wanted for Murder after he killed a man and his brother who had killed Jims' own brother Scott. Starr was a half-Cherokee Outlaw who sold Whiskey in Indian Territory which was a Federal Crime at this time. While at the races one day he became involved with clan of outlaws led by a man called Tom Starr. Jim Reed began to spend more time at the horse racing track rather than with his family. Once back in Missouri Belle gave birth to her first daughter Rosie Lee who was nicknamed "Pearl", from the start Belle began to refer to her daughter as "Her little Pearl. Sometime after the marriage the Reeds moved back to Missouri, Belle and her new husband decided to go with them. Belle and Reed quickly became a couple and on November 1st 1866 they were married. Once in Texas Belle was ecstatic to find out that the Reeds had also moved to the same area. ![]() Belle admired Reed from a distance but the family had moved away from Carthage before a relationship could form. Reed who was two years older than Belle had joined "Quantrill's Raiders"when he was 17. However in Texas Belle was about to meet someone who would change her life forever, back in Carthage Belle met a boy called Jim Reed. Luckily they escaped just in time, three months after they left Cathage was burned to the ground by Confederate Rebels in a desperate move to drive Union Troops out of the town. The family, not wanting to incur anymore losses, packed up and moved to Texas. In June 1864 Bud was killed in an attack in Sarcoxie Missouri after Union Troops surrounded a house he was in. When John found out about this he was extremely proud of Bud. Around this time Mayras' eldest brother Bud joined a gang of Confederate Sympathisers called "Quantrill's Raiders". It should be mentioned that John Shirley was a slave owner who was pro-slavery, while the Civil War hadn't began at this point tensions were high between anti-slavers and pro-slavers. With the money he had saved up he was able to purchase an entire city block consisting of a livery stable, a blacksmith, a tavern and a hotel. Her father was a wheat, corn and hog farmer, when Mayra was six years old he relocated the family to Carthage Missouri. The couple would go on to have three more children, all of whom were boys with Mayra being the eldest child. ![]() Her father John Shirley was already on to his third wife when Mayra was born, that third wife was Eliza Pennington Hatfield and she was a member of the Hatfield Family who famously had a feud with their longtime rivals the McCoys. Mayra Maybelle Shirley who would become the famous Belle Starr was born on February 5th 1848 in Jasper County in Missouri. ![]()
